News from the Principal
So much has happened since the last newsletter. It has definitely been exciting and fast paced. We have had our NAIDOC Celebrations which was a lovely event where students were able to share some of the Indigenous Culture, learn about some of the history and sit together to enjoy a fruit break with students across a variety of different cohorts. Tyriq proudly did an Acknowledgement to Country which he practiced and spoke very well.
We have had a number of students participate in Capricornia Trials for Athletics in Mackay this week and if you have been monitoring our Facebook page you would have seen the Cheshire grins that each student had as they achieved Personal Bests (PB's), medals and just simply had a bunch of fun. Many of you will know that I love to see students make strong connections and this is yet another group that the students belong to and another team they can be proud to be part of. I am certainly incredibly proud of how well students presented themselves while they were away. Congratulations to the students involved.
We have had a number of staff members step up and take on some coordination roles within the school to help us achieve some great outcomes for our students. They have been involved in a significant amount of training over the last few weeks and have come back to school energised and ready to take on some new challenges. We look forward to working in the space with them over the next few months, particularly in the areas of communication and pedagogy (how we teach)!
We are about to have Book week and I can’t wait to see all the amazing costumes that the students come up with. The theme this year is Dreaming with Eyes Open. It is so important to instil a love of books and reading or listening to audiobooks for all students and this time of year is definitely one of my favourites. Almost as good as Christmas and let’s be honest, it won’t be long before we are talking about that too! Big thank you to the amazing Mrs Buckle who ensures Book week goes off without a hitch! We are certainly very lucky to have you within the school.
Leadership Camp is finally happening in Week 9 after it unfortunately had to be postponed. Miss Harris and I are certainly looking forward to taking this year’s Leadership group away to Rockhampton for a night. Big thank you to the P&C who have supported the students with funding to make it possible for everyone to attend. We intend on doing the Leadership Camp much earlier next year!
As a result of a number of conversations we have had with parents over the past few months, there are a number of areas that some have requested support in. To this end, we have an upcoming Parent Information afternoon – you will have received this Flyer in your Communication Books this week and you will see this advertisement in this edition of the newsletter. We have True Relationships coming from Rockhampton to work with parents around what is normal and appropriate sexual behaviours and how to effectively support your child as they experience changes, reproductive and hormonal, to their body. We then have NDIS coming from Rockhampton to discuss how to navigate the NDIS space. They are keen to return to continue this journey in the coming months as needed by families to ensure you are not missing out on eligible funding. Then finally we have a session for our Year 10 Parents to discuss what the Senior Schooling Program will look like for 2023 and to help them understand the SET Plan process and QCIA Curriculum. We look forward to seeing many of you there. Be sure to let us know if there are other topics you would also like to know about so that we can try to facilitate this at our next parent information night.

On Friday 26th August (Term3 Week 7) we are celebrating Book Week here at Rosella Park School.
It would be awesome if you could dress up your student as their favourite book character. Our book week parade will be held on Friday 26th August at 9:15 am in the undercover area.

Our breakfast club runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 am - 8:45 am. All students are welcome to come along and grab brekky or a snack.

With School holidays coming up these games to play in the car may come in handy and keep the family entertained for a while at least

In Room 1 we have been having lots of fun learning our numbers, shapes and letters and each week we have a ‘Book of the Week’. So far this term we have read ‘Tiddalick the Frog’, ‘Rainbow Serpent’, ‘Wombat Stew’, and ‘Why I love Australia’. We have been looking at different Australian animals and places in Australia. We are also learning how to show respect to each other in the classroom and to encourage each other in our learning and growing.

Room 1.5 have been honing their cooking skills (as we learn about half and whole) during the past couple of weeks and have really enjoyed the fruits of our labour. We have made mango smoothies, chicken nuggets and pizza. Next week we are cooking treats for Father’s Day.
This Semester room 1.5 have been studying different dreamtime stories and having a closer look at Aboriginal traditions. Tiddalick The Frog has become one of our favourite stories, because the animals did silly things, and that makes us laugh as well.
We have book week celebrations on Friday this week and then our sports day is coming up next week, keep an eye on Dojo for pics.

Hello families,
We have been extremely busy this term exploring a range of fun interactive learning activities. Students have particularly enjoyed role playing in our classroom shops. We have been responding to a sequence during this activity where student’s role play going to the shop, looking at the items and then buying their preferred item with our play money. After everyone finishes purchasing their item we then discuss a ‘whole’ and ‘parts of a whole’ and explore this by cutting our items in half. So far, the bakery and fruit stall have been our favourite shops. This semester we have incorporated an aboriginal lullaby ‘Inanay’ into our morning greeting. As a class we enjoy viewing and performing this song each morning and we have painted our own clapsticks to use while participating in the actions. This term we celebrated NAIDOC week and Room 2 students had a fantastic time participating in and exploring the various activities. This event was extremely fun and engaging and a big thank you to everyone who was involved in organising it.
Thank you
Michelle and Laureen

This month Room 3 have been working hard with all their subject learning. The students have participated in Maths with coin and shopping activities and the exploration of fractions. In Geography and History the focus has been on NAIDOC Day and the Connection to Country and place. In English the book focus has been related to the Indigenous Culture and the identification of characters and the recall of events. We continue with a sensory letter and sound focus which is very engaging and lots of fun. In Science we have planted pea seeds and watched them germinate. On a weekly basis the students spend time in the school garden looking after a plot by watering and digging the soil in preparation for the planting of the germinated pea seeds.
Thank you to all the parents who have assisted with the completion of this semester’s ICP process. It is always nice to be able to have an opportunity to meet and discuss your student’s education.

Room 5 is very excited about our upcoming school camp. We have been looking at maps of our accommodation during our geography lessons and learning where we can find the pool, splash zone and water slides. In History we have been discussing living and non-living things. We have been discussing what living and non-living things we might find at the beach.

NAIDOC week was heaps of fun. We made paper chain snakes, decorated digeridoo’s, threw boomerangs and had a yarning circle. We enjoyed our little goodie bag at the end as well 😊.

Room 6 - Senior - Mrs Buckle
This term is leaping ahead. We are getting into our history, science and geography. For History we are looking at how we remember things from the past. A photo, a toy, a smell can often transport us to a place and time long ago. Miss Deb brought in some of her ‘old’ treasures and shared what they meant to her.
For geography and science, we are going on some excursion around the Gladstone area to look at plant and animal habitats and their location in our region. We are going to try to understand how have plants and animals adapted to live their environments.
Room 6 was invited to Room 14, where Room 14 served us some yummy bacon and egg muffins. It is part of their Year 11 goals and we were the lucky class for last week.
Rory shared a cake to celebrate his birthday for this week. He was in Mackay trying out for the Capricornia Sports Team so wasn’t around to share it but it would certainly make his birthday a memorable experience.
Between now and the Term 3 holidays we have our Book Week morning of story sharing with buddy classes. The week after that we have our Sports Day Gala. In the last week of term, we have our PBL Rewards Day. We are going to be busy, busy, busy but it will be the best kind of busy 😊

Wow, where has Term Three gone! All students in room 8 have busily been working towards individual goals for this Semester. Students have really enjoyed digital design this semester and loved posing for pictures. I am sure that you will all appreciate the final product.
Camp planning has been finalised for us to go week 2 of Term 4. Camp packs should go home shortly.
Finally, room 8 would like to wish Goutham and his family a happy and safe trip to India and we look forward to seeing you next term.
Room 9 - Intermediate - Mrs Thomas
This term has been busy and lots of fun learning has happened already. We have enjoyed learning about Science; living things and their needs. Room 9 has planted some vegetables in a garden bed and the lettuce has started to grow. Other plants growing are silverbeet, onions and chives. The students are learning how to care for them. On Friday 26th August we will be going on our excursion to wash Jasper the dog at the pet shop, Bunnings tour with a plant specialists and seedlings will be given out and an activity pack. The students will end up at MacDonald’s for a treat and Lion’s Park as a special place for Geography and Science for living things. The Intermediate Camp to Cool Waters Resort in Yeppoon is coming up very soon and our cohort will also be doing swimming in Term 4. Forms will be coming home shortly. Room 9 will be assessed on Geography at the close of this term and the students are to build either a Lego representation of a designed special place for them or a diorama.

What a whirlwind term we have had! and it's not over yet!
Week 7 is going to be a big one for us all!
Monday and Tuesday: Jessy, Joshua and Miss Harris are in Mackay for athletics. Miss Nicole and the rest of the class have some great activities to do including some new books to explore.
Wednesday: Miss Harris is back at school and will get things ready for our class to read and do activities for book week with one of the intermediate classes. We are also likely to do some sports day practice.
Thursday: Miss Harris is away for training. Miss Nicole will have the class cooking some delicious hot dogs and making assorted toppings to try on them.
Friday: Miss Harris still away at training.
It is book week day! Come in costumes/outfits from any book you like. I’ve recommended many of them could come as the “World’s Worst Children” as we’ve been loving reading it.
I’m looking forward to seeing photos and hearing stories of the book week activities.
Week 8 is a 4 day week and we will have sports day on the Thursday then the day off for Pupil Free Day on the Friday.
Week 9 Monday and Tuesday is student council camp: this means Miss Harris, Holly and Joshua are away on camp.
Week 10 should be a full 5 day week of us all together then we get 2 weeks off to recover 😃
As a school we have Tyriq, Tehmarni, Sami, Rory, Joshua, Jesse, Jessy, Levi and Shayla all competing in Mackay. I'm honoured to be able to help them. With how well Run Club is going and the amount of very speedy students I'm looking forward to an even bigger group going in 2023. Rosella Park School has amazing athletes who should all be very proud.

Room 14 - Transition - Mr Pallett
During Term 3, students in Room 14 have continued to focus on improving their skills in English and Maths, whilst being introduced to a new set of goals in other areas.
In English, we have continued to focus on our reading and on developing our ability to write about different sides of a topic. In Maths, we are learning about money, with our key priorities being counting Australian notes and coins and calculating correct change.
Our Technology focus has been on Digital Safety and learning how to navigate the increasingly vital online world while remaining emotionally secure and protecting both ourselves and our data. In Health, we have been looking at how to build positive relationships and to understand and recognise our emotions.
The students have really enjoyed our Leisure and Recreation lessons and they are always keen to get out and about in the local community. We have visited East Shores, Tondoon Botanic Gardens and Lion’s Park and, as the weather warms up, we hope to be getting out even more.
Probably the most popular lesson so far this term has been Kitchen Operations. On Tuesdays, the class visit Coles to buy the necessary ingredients and on Thursdays we prepare food for other classes. We have prepared healthy sandwiches, toasties, mini pizzas and pasta Bolognese. The other students and staff have been most appreciative. This is a good preparation for Year 12 when the class will be responsible for the school tuckshop.
Room 15 - Transition - Mrs Leeson
Have you checked out our tuckshop menu? Last week our special was hotdogs. We had 16 hotdog orders. Our next tuckshop and final tuckshop special for this term is chicken burgers. Don’t forget to look out for the reminder notice when tuckshop is due.
Last week our communication class looked at the word help on our communication devices. We read a book about a chicken who was making a cake. She asked different animals for help but they all said no. They wanted to help her eat the cake though. Mrs Leeson make a cake. She asked who would help her. Zach said he would help her use the hand-held mixer. Kitarna said she would help stir the cake, Abbey said she would help make a purple cake and Alex said he would help stir the cake.
The students have been enjoying various activities for leisure. Abbey has become a budding photographer and enjoys taking photos of nature at the parks and the other students enjoying the outdoors. Zachary managed to convince us that a good leisure activity is cleaning cars. He would do this all day, everyday if we let him. This week our girls have asked to go shopping while some of the group head to East Shores.
On a final note; Last Friday evening, Ms Slade, Ms Davis and I went to the Art Gallery for the opening of the 28th Cyril Golding Art Showcase. This exhibition showcases the work of year 12 and 12 artists from local schools in our district. We have 2 students from our class with artwork on display. Congratulations Zach and Abbey on your digital art displays. Make sure you get down to the Art Gallery to check out their work.
